Off-Roading with Mahindra Thar Facelift The Thar Facelift will be available with 2 variant line-ups – AXT and LXT. There are 2 diesel engine options – a 117 BHP, 1.5-litre diesel engine that’s available only in a rear-wheel drive configuration with a manual transmission. Then you have the 130 BHP, 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine that’s available only in a four-wheel drive configuration with a manual or automatic transmission. There’s also a 150 BHP, 2.0-litre petrol engine that is available in a rear-wheel-drive configuration with an automatic transmission. The petrol engine is also available in a four-wheel drive configuration with a manual or automatic transmission: The drive experience was limited to the off-road trail at the Mahindra Adventure Off-Road training academy in Igatpuri, Maharashtra. It’s a massive area where Mahindra tests its vehicles as well, and I must say, it’s quite an enjoyable course: The trail runs through some dense forest area and is pretty narrow in some places: I was driving the petrol AT, and we were told to be in manual mode as it allows for better control of the revs. While some of the obstacles could’ve been easily tackled in 4H, some would need 4L to be engaged: There was some water wading… …going down some steep declines in a narrow ditch… …some articulation, and lastly… …some side slopes: I kept the off-roading data switched on during the trail driving. However, during tight turns, when I engaged reverse and drove again, the screen went to the home screen, which was annoying: In conclusion, the off-road trail, although fun, didn’t really push the Thar to its limits. It was smooth sailing through the entire course with the car’s 4×4 mechanicals and electronics doing all the work for you. All we had to do was modulate the throttle and steer the car. But owning a Thar is not always about pushing it to its absolute limits in off-roading capabilities. Sometimes it’s just about exploring areas that you wouldn’t normally do in your road car. And that is something that the Thar does very well, along with splashing around in the slush in a fantastic manner: Here’s a video showing some more off-roading with the Thar facelift:Video: Link Read Team-BHP’s detailed 2025 Mahindra Thar Facelift review here
