Equipment worth Rs 3 crore gutted in fire at warehouse

Vijayawada: A massive fire broke out at a private company warehouse near Enikepadu on the outskirts of Vijayawada in NTR district on Monday morning, destroying electrical equipment worth around Rs 3 crore. A short circuit is suspected to be the cause of the blaze, prima facie.According to Vijayawada (Central) zone assistant commissioner of police (ACP) K Damodhar, the incident occurred at around 8 am. The godown, owned by Maganti Anjani, was leased to Chennamaneni Venkat, who stored electronic appliances such as air conditioners, televisions, refrigerators, and microwaves for supply to various retail stores across the city.Upon receiving information, fire personnel rushed to the spot and managed to douse the flames after several hours. However, officials said that the premises was still too hot to enter, delaying the assessment of the total loss.Half of the warehouse, including the office room, was completely gutted in the fire. Several documents related to the stored equipment were also reduced to ashes. Teams from the clues department, forensic science laboratory (FSL), and the electricity department visited the site to assess the cause of the fire. Their reports will determine whether the blaze resulted from an accident or any foul play.Patamata police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
