Vijayawada: A visually impaired man from Mandadam village in Guntur district was allegedly cheated of Rs 10 lakh by a job consultancy that promised overseas employment for his son. The victim, identified as Vennapuusa Babu Reddy (44), lodged a complaint with the Tulluru police.According to Tulluru SI Muralidhar Rao, Babu Reddy, who runs a marble shop to support his family, sought employment opportunities abroad for his son, Nithin Kumar Reddy, who completed a diploma in hotel management from a private college in Chennai. He came into contact with Akhil Swaroop, managing director of a job consultancy, through an acquaintance named Kotapati Srinivasulu.Swaroop allegedly assured Babu Reddy that he would secure a job for his son in Australia and demanded Rs 10 lakh in advance. He also took an additional agreement stating that another Rs 10 lakh would be paid after the job was arranged, and that the initial amount would be refunded if the offer did not materialise.However, even after three months, no progress was made, and Swaroop reportedly stopped responding to Babu Reddy’s calls. When the victim confronted him over the issue, Swaroop allegedly assaulted Babu Reddy, leaving him injured. Based on Babu Reddy’s complaint, police registered a case and initiated an investigation into the alleged job fraud and assault.
