Guntur Municipal Commissioner Puli Srinivasulu has directed immediate removal of road and drain encroachments across the city that are obstructing the free flow of rain and sewage water. During an inspection on Monday at Pattabhipuram Main Road, Amaravati Road, and Vijayapuri Colony, he instructed town planning officials to try and get encroachers to clear the structures voluntarily, warning that the corporation would act otherwise.

The Commissioner expressed anger after finding repeated encroachments over drains, including one near Hindu Pharmacy College on Amaravati Road, where illegal structures were re-erected even after being removed three times. He ordered a departmental inquiry and strict action against staff responsible. Mr. Srinivasulu criticized town planning and sanitation officials for negligence despite repeated public complaints of water stagnation and flooding in several wards.

He also issued a rain alert, advising residents in low-lying areas to stay vigilant as rains continued on Monday. Engineering staff were directed to keep motors ready for pumping out stagnant water and ensure smooth drainage near culverts, especially at the three bridges, Kankaragunta RUB, Ring Road, and Chuttugunta Centre. Officials were told to remain on the ground until rainfall subsides and ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply.

Citizens facing rain-related issues can contact the 24-hour GMC helpline at 0863-2345103.
