Over 10,000 motorists were booked by the Hyderabad traffic police for wrong side driving during a special week-long drive aimed at curbing one of the city’s most hazardous traffic violations.
Between October 1 and 7, 2025, officials registered as many as 10,652 cases against those caught driving on the wrong side of the road, an offence that not only causes traffic congestion but also poses grave risks to other commuters. The violators were fined under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

“Wrong-side driving has become a common and dangerous practice in Hyderabad. It not only causes traffic congestion but also poses a serious threat to the safety of both the violators and other road users,” said Hyderabad Joint Commissioner (Traffic) D. Joel Davis.
The police have also encouraged vigilant citizens to report such violations through official social media handles or via the Traffic Helpline (9010203626) and e-Challan helpdesk (8712661690).
