Vijayawada: The new Board of Trustees of the Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam (Kanaka Durga Temple) took oath in a grand ceremony held at the Rajagopuram premises on Wednesday morning. The ceremony began at 9 am, with temple executive officer V K Seena Nayak administering the oath to 16 members of the board, one ex-officio member, and two special invitees.Following the swearing-in, the election for the post of chairman was conducted. Two members proposed the name of Borra Radhakrishna (Gandhi) as chairman, and all other members unanimously supported the proposal. With this, the temple authorities officially announced Gandhi’s election as the new chairman of the board of trustees.A special meeting of the newly sworn-in members was then held, during which the chairman and trustees expressed gratitude to Goddess Kanaka Durga and the state government. Later, the executive officer accompanied the chairman and members for darshan at the temple, marking the beginning of their new term.Addressing the media, chairman Borra Gandhi said that all efforts would be made to implement the master plan for the development of Kanaka Durga Temple, one of the most important shrines in Andhra Pradesh. He emphasised teamwork and continuity of the dedication shown during the Dasara celebrations.EO Seena Nayak stated that the administration would work closely with the new board to enhance facilities for devotees. Plans include establishing new information centres at the foothill and introducing battery-operated vehicles for easy access to the temple.Ministers Kolusu Parthasarathy, Kollu Ravindra, MLAs Sujana Chowdhary, government whip Thangirala Soumya and others attended the event and congratulated the newly formed board. Padmavati Thakur, one of the members, will take oath within two days.
