Telangana’s promise to enhance tourism safety made a major breakthrough with the formal inauguration of Tourist Police Units in all major tourist spots in the state. The goal of this effort is to offer specialized assistance to tourists so that travelers get to have a safe, secure, and well-organized experience during their visit.
The Tourist Police Units were launched as part of the Telangana Tourism Police 2025–2030 policy, which aims to develop a strong framework for safe tourism and cultural exchange. This is a move to meet the increasing demand for safety in tourism and an attempt to rationalize tourism operations in the most visited areas of Telangana.
Specialized Training for Tourist Police Personnel
In preparation for their deployment, 80 police personnel participated in a specialized training program held from October 6 to 9, 2025, at the National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management (NITHM) in Hyderabad. The training covered a wide range of skills necessary for managing tourist-related issues, including crowd control, emergency response, and visitor assistance at popular tourist sites.
The training also included field visits to major tourist attractions like Yadagirigutta, Bhongir Fort, Golconda Fort, Qutb Shahi Tombs, and Lumbini Park. This on-ground exposure gave the personnel practical experience in managing the tourist flow and ensuring visitor safety at these prominent sites, which are frequented by thousands of domestic and international travelers.
Tourist Police Units Deployed Across Key Destinations
The Tourist Police Units will be stationed across seven districts, including Hyderabad, to cover the most popular tourist destinations in Telangana. In Hyderabad, the units will be deployed at iconic sites such as Charminar, Golconda Fort, and the Salar Jung Museum, which attract significant numbers of tourists throughout the year.
The presence of these trained personnel at major sites like Yadadri Laxmi Narasimha Swamy Temple, Bhongir Fort, Ramappa Temple, and Sree Sita Rama Chandra Swamy Temple will ensure that tourists have easy access to guidance and assistance during their visits, while maintaining safety and order.
Expanding Accessibility for International Visitors
In a bid to make tourism more accessible, the Telangana government has introduced simplified visa and customs procedures, along with multi-stop travel options within the state. The government is actively working on increasing cross-border tourism and expanding services for international visitors, particularly from neighboring countries.
The Tourist Police Units will assist in this process by ensuring that foreign visitors feel comfortable and secure throughout their travels in Telangana. The presence of dedicated police personnel in popular tourist areas will contribute to creating a more welcoming environment for international tourists and fostering positive experiences.
Cultural and Heritage Tourism: A Key Focus of the New Units
The Tourist Police Units will play an integral role in the promotion of cultural and heritage tourism in Telangana. As the state boasts a wealth of historical sites, including Golconda Fort, Qutb Shahi Tombs, and Ramappa Temple, the presence of well-trained tourism officers will ensure that these cultural treasures are protected and that tourists can explore them safely. The Tourist Police will act as custodians of cultural sites, ensuring preservation while enhancing the tourist experience.
With Telangana’s rich history and diverse culture, the Tourist Police Units will also help guide visitors through various historical sites, temples, and museums, deepening their understanding of the region’s heritage. These officers will act as informative guides for tourists, highlighting the significance of the landmarks they visit and offering engaging insights into Telangana’s legacy.
Promoting Safe and Sustainable Tourism
As part of the Safe Tourism component of the Telangana Tourism Police 2025–2030 policy, the government is committed to providing sustainable tourism options. The Tourist Police Units will work closely with local authorities to ensure that tourism practices in Telangana remain environmentally responsible and community-friendly.
In line with these principles, the units will help promote eco-tourism initiatives and assist in maintaining green spaces in popular tourist areas. By focusing on sustainability and environmental protection, the units will play a critical role in creating a long-term, sustainable tourism model for the state.
Enhancing the Local Economy Through Tourism
The launch of the Tourist Police Units also contributes to the economic development of Telangana. The growth of tourism has the potential to create new job opportunities in the hospitality, tourism services, and local businesses sectors. By ensuring the safety of visitors, the Tourist Police will help build a positive reputation for Telangana as a safe and welcoming destination, attracting more domestic and international tourists.
Local businesses, including tourist guides, craft vendors, and restaurants, will benefit from increased foot traffic and tourist engagement. Additionally, small businesses in rural areas will have the opportunity to thrive as more tourists explore lesser-known regions of the state, supporting a diverse tourism economy.
Future Expansion and Long-Term Impact
The Telangana government envisions the Tourist Police Units as a permanent fixture of the state’s tourism infrastructure. In the future, the units may expand to new tourist hotspots and emerging destinations to ensure that tourism growth is matched by the need for security and visitor services. As tourism numbers increase, the units will scale up their operations to cover more areas and assist in maintaining safe travel experiences for all visitors.
Furthermore, the Tourist Police will be key in adapting to new challenges in the tourism sector, from online booking issues to crowd management at high-demand sites. The continued investment in tourism safety and training will ensure that Telangana remains a top destination for travelers seeking both modern amenities and cultural authenticity.
Transforming Telangana into a Leading Safe Tourism Destination
The creation of the Tourist Police Units in Telangana represents a landmark step in the state’s bid to develop secure and sustainable tourism. Through combining visitor support, cultural interaction, and community participation, the units will contribute to improving the tourist experience as well as maintaining public safety.
As travel in Telangana keeps increasing, the launch of the Tourist Police is an important move in making sure that the state continues to be a leading destination for both local and foreign tourists. Through these initiatives, Telangana will be in a good position to offer world-class hospitality, develop cultural tourism, as well as ensure the security of all visitors in the coming years.
