Mercedes-Benz India has launched the G 450d diesel at a price of Rs 2.90 crore (ex-showroom). This engine also has 48V mild hybrid technology and is mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to all four wheels. As before, the G 450d retains the triple locking differential and low range function. Like the older G 400d, the G 450d also has a maximum water fording depth of 700 mm and approach and departure angles of 31 and 30 degrees respectively.

Talking about looks, the G 450d has been given a slightly new design compared to the already sold SUV, which includes a new grille, new bumpers and new 20-inch alloy wheels. Buyers can choose from a variety of standard and manufacturer colors for customization.

The cabin is packed with technology, including two 12.3-inch displays running Mercedes’ new MBUX NTG7 operating system, wireless smartphone integration, in-built navigation with augmented reality display, 760W Burmester 3D surround sound system with Dolby Atmos and Transparent Bonnet Mode. Equipped with a new off-road dashboard display on the touchscreen. Buyers can choose from a variety of standard and manufacturer upholstery options to customize the cabin to their liking.

Other standard features include 360-degree cameras, adaptive dampers and ADAS functions.

Mercedes says that only 50 units of the G 450d have been allocated for the Indian market, and these units will be made available to ‘selected customers in India’.

The company has also launched a new ‘Mercedes-Benz G-Tribe Escapade’ program in India. This new program will give Mercedes owners and customers the opportunity to drive select vehicles across the Mercedes SUV range. The first such expedition will be conducted in November and December, in which participants will drive from India to Thimphu, Punakha and Paro in Bhutan.
