Proposals being prepared to supply water to Suryapet: Uttam | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: The govt is preparing proposals to supply water from the Devadula lift irrigation scheme and Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) to Suryapet district, irrigation minister Uttam Kumar Reddy has said.Speaking at a district-level extended meeting of Congress on Monday, the minister said the Congress govt was working with unwavering resolve to streamline the supply of SRSP water to Suryapet. He said that the reservoir’s capacity, originally 112 thousand million cubic (TMC) feet, dropped to 80 TMC due to siltation, affecting downstream water supply. He said the govt would initiate desilting works in SRSP and would also repair damaged canals and lining to restore full capacity and uninterrupted water flow.Uttam Kumar Reddy credited former minister and the late Congress leader Ramreddy Damodar Reddy for bringing SRSP Phase-2 water to the district. He recalled that under his leadership, Congress led several agitations, including a Raktharpanam protest, demanding SRSP water for the region. To honour the late leader’s legacy, the govt has decided to name SRSP Phase-2 after Damodar Reddy, a proposal that received the approval of chief minister Revanth Reddy. “The late leader’s absence is deeply felt, and we are committed to taking forward his vision,” the minister said. He added that the Congress govt was focused on Suryapet’s overall development, including strengthening irrigation infrastructure. He said the expansion of the national highway into a six-lane corridor and the approval of a railway line to the district were achievements of the Congress govt.
