RTC plans more deluxe buses along IT corridor

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) is planning to introduce more deluxe buses along Hyderabad’s IT corridor to cater to the rising demand from tech commuters. This comes amid growing pressure on public transport, particularly from employees travelling to business districts such as Hi-Tec City, Gachibowli and Madhapur. As well as expanding its fleet of deluxe buses, the RTC has proposed building over 10 new bus terminals across the city to support the increased number of vehicles and improve last-mile connectivity. According to officials, the new terminals will improve passenger convenience and reduce congestion at existing depots.“Commuters in the IT corridor have been facing overcrowding during peak hours. The new buses and terminals will make travel smoother and more reliable. We are actively assessing various routes to identify those with high demand and low frequency, and we plan to deploy additional buses on these routes to improve the service and reduce waiting times for commuters,” said a senior official.“During peak hours, buses are so crowded that it’s difficult to even get a seat. The long gaps between buses make daily commuting stressful and time-consuming,” said Raj Samminga, a software engineer who travels to Hi-Tec City.Currently, TSRTC operates a fleet of 3,151 buses across Hyderabad and Secunderabad, including the GHMC area and surrounding suburbs. These buses complete 32,422 trips daily from 25 depots, covering 8.5 lakh kilometres and transporting over 25 lakh passengers each day.
