The Hyderabad Traffic Police has launched a citywide crackdown on motorists using mobile phones while driving or riding, warning that strict action will be taken against violators. Officials said the habit remains a major road safety hazard despite repeated warnings and awareness campaigns.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D. Joel Davis said using a phone while driving distracts motorists, slows reaction time and remains one of the leading causes of road accidents.
As per data shared by the department, between January 1 and October 12 this year, the police booked 80,555 cases for phone use while driving, including 2,345 cases during recent drives held on October 13 and 14.
Traffic police officials have cautioned that the special enforcement drives will continue across the city, with cases being referred to court for penalties. Citizens have been urged to prioritise safety over calls and to cooperate in ensuring safer roads.
Motorists and vigilant citizens can report traffic violations through the Hyderabad Traffic Police’s official social media handles or via the Traffic Helpline (9010203626) and e-Challan helpdesk (8712661690).
