Mythri Movie Makers is one of India’s leading production houses, known for working with top pan-India stars. This year, the banner completed a decade in the film industry and also made its Tamil and Hindi debut with Good Bad Ugly and Jaat. Both films released recently and delivered decent numbers at the box office, though the results were moderate compared to their budgets.
Currently, Mythri is gearing up for the release of the Tamil film Dude, starring Pradeep Ranganathan and directed by Keerthiswaran. The film will release on October 17 in Tamil and Telugu. On Wednesday, Mythri producers Naveen Yerneni and Ravi Shankar held a media interaction to promote the film and discuss their upcoming projects.
Speaking about Good Bad Ugly, starring Ajith Kumar and directed by Adhik Ravichandran, the producers said, “We’re happy with the film. It turned out to be a big grosser for Ajith Kumar. We may not have made huge profits, but we didn’t lose money. It gave us a strong entry in Tamil, and we plan to do more films with Ajith in the future.”
On the recent controversy where Netflix removed Good Bad Ugly due to a case filed by Ilayaraja, they clarified, “We bought the rights for the songs from Sony Music, paying around 15–20 lakh per song. The dispute is between Ilayaraja and Sony Music. The songs have been temporarily replaced. The verdict is expected on October 16. We have all legal documents and followed due procedure, so we cannot comment further while the case is ongoing.”
About Jaat, starring Sunny Deol and directed by Gopichand Mallineni, they said, “Jaat performed well at the box office, though it didn’t generate huge profits. There is good anticipation for Jaat 2. Several parties, including OTT platforms, have approached us. We plan to start Jaat 2 soon. If Gopichand Mallineni is busy, we will consider another director.”
For the upcoming Tamil film Dude, they added, “The film is primarily made in Tamil, though we expect a good performance in Telugu. The film has made a table profit of around ₹35 crore. We’re releasing it ourselves across all regions. Pradeep’s last film did about ₹31 crore in Tamil Nadu and ₹12 crore in Telugu states. Anything above that will be considered good.”
Overall, it seems Mythri has managed better returns from smaller budget films compared to some of their larger projects, and the production house continues to expand its presence across languages and regions.
