7-month Jimny review: Real mileage & performance in city and highway

7-month Jimny review: Real mileage & performance in city and highway BHPian freakmuzik recently shared this with other enthusiasts A Jimny owner for 7 months here. I own an Automatic and drive it heavily in Chennai’s horrible metro-work ridden traffic and occasional highway rides too. On highways, the car returns 14 kmpl with a full load. So being an MT, 15 should be doable if your speeds are consistently moderate. If you were a city guy, Jimny would be no-no as the FE might get you sad. It can give you 11 on a very good day, but my AT is consistent at around 9 kmpl tankful to tankful purely within Chennai’s horrible traffic (an MT might give 10). In comparison, my sister’s Baleno MT gives 14 – 14.5 kmpl. I loved the way Jimny behaves on the highway, being the kind of vehicle it is – Stable and predictable at 100 kmph. The brakes might feel a bit spongy compared to other cars, but braking hasn’t been an issue after I got used to it. The car can do higher speeds, but after a point, we’ll realise the sweet spot is between 80 and 100. Wind noise is there, but much less than the Thar. And I haven’t found any issues with power to date. As many mention, a 0-100 sprint is not equivalent to everyday driving, and even with four heavy passengers and a full boot, the car kept up with the traffic and braked predictably well for a loaded car. The only thing is, you can only ‘keep up’ with the traffic and not lead the traffic with crazy speeds and stunts. Check out BHPian comments for more insights and information.
