Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh women’s commission chairperson, Rayapati Sailaja, has taken a serious view of the recent sexual assault on a 35-year-old woman in the women’s compartment of the Santragachi Special Express. She has written to railway authorities in Guntur and Vijayawada, urging them to implement robust security measures in women’s compartments to prevent such incidents.Sailaja expressed her surprise that men were allowed to travel in compartments reserved exclusively for women passengers. She emphasized the need for swift action to ensure the safety and security of women passengers on trains. The letter highlighted the importance of deploying special women police personnel inside women’s compartments and conducting regular drives by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) to prevent male passengers from entering these compartments.The Chairperson has also instructed officials to conduct a detailed probe to identify gaps in women’s security on trains and take immediate corrective measures. The probe is expected to be conducted expeditiously, and a detailed report on the incident is to be submitted to the women’s commission.
