Hyundai has confirmed its plans to launch a made-in-India sub-4-metre electric SUV by 2027. This was announced today in the company’s first Investor Day presentation. This new entry-level subcompact electric SUV will be designed and developed in India using high-end local materials. This new small electric car from Hyundai may be based on Hyundai-Kia’s K1 platform, on which electric cars like Hyundai Inster sold in Europe are already based.

The new entry-level subcompact electric SUV will be designed and developed in India.

The new entry-level Hyundai EV will be equipped with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) and the company will provide both standard and long-range battery options. The car will also have an advanced infotainment system and OTA controller. Although its specifications are not known yet, we expect this model to share powertrains with the Kia Ciros EV arriving in 2026.

The new small EV may share technology with the Hyundai Inster sold in Europe.

However, this upcoming electric car may be smaller in size than the upcoming Ciros EV. This means that instead of competing with cars like the Nexon EV or XUV400, this Hyundai rival can compete with cars like the Tata Punch EV.

Hyundai’s model roadmap for India includes 13 combustion engine models, 5 electric vehicles, 8 hybrid vehicles and 6 CNG vehicles. The company has also confirmed its plans to bring the Genesis brand to India, which will come through the completely built (CBU) route.
