Owners of properties along the Rajiv Rahadari stretch from Gymkhana to Thumukunta have appealed to Medchal Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender to intervene in the ongoing road-widening project, urging that the proposed width be reduced from 200 feet to 100 feet.
In a letter addressed to the MP, chairman of the Rajiv Rahadari Property Owners Joint Action Committee (JAC) Telukunta Satish Gupta, stated that the widening plan would lead to large-scale displacement and financial distress for hundreds of property owners and business establishments.
“Even major cities and national highways in India rarely have 200-feet-wide roads. We fail to understand the need for this sudden expansion to 200 feet, which will cause immense damage to citizens’ properties and livelihoods,” the letter said, adding that the original design under the government tender specified a 100-feet width.
Citing examples from Nagpur and Coimbatore, where double-decker and elevated corridors were built within 100-feet-wide roads, the JAC urged the Telangana government to consider similar modern solutions that balance infrastructure growth with citizen welfare.
