Hyderabad man sentenced to 10 years RI for sexually assaulting minor girl

A 60-year-old tuition teacher and chess coach, who was earlier arrested for sexually assaulting a minor girl, was sentenced to ten years’ rigorous imprisonment by a special court for trial and disposal of rape and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) cases on Friday (October 17, 2025). The court also slapped a fine of ₹5,000 on the accused and awarded compensation of ₹3 lakh to the victim.

The accused, identified as Dronamraju Subramanyeshwara Rao, was arrested on December 7, 2017 by the Rajendranagar police following a complaint by the victim’s mother on December 4, 2017. In the complaint, she stated that her 12-year-old daughter had been attending tuition for three days. On December 3 that year, the girl called her mother from Rao’s home, alleging that after sending the other children away, Rao had sexually assaulted her.

A case was booked under the POCSO Act, 2012, Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act and several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Following the investigation, a chargesheet was filed, followed by a trial.
