GST 2.0 impact: Suzuki Hayabusa, GSX-8R and V-Strom 800 DE prices hiked by up to Rs 1.16 lakh

After the discontinuation of Katana, Suzuki India’s big bike portfolio is now limited to three models. Hayabusa, GSX-8R and V-Storm 800 DE. All three of these big engine motorcycles fall under higher GST slabs and as a result, they are now priced higher than before. Here’s how much the price of each model has changed.

The GSX-8R was previously priced at Rs.9.25 lakh (ex-showroom), and after the GST change, it is now priced at Rs.9.88 lakh, an increase of Rs.63,551. The price of V-Strom 800 DE has also increased from Rs.10.30 lakh to Rs.11.00 lakh, increasing its price by Rs.70,763. At the same time, the price of flagship Hayabusa has crossed Rs. 18 lakh, whose price has increased from Rs. 16.90 lakh to Rs. 18.06 lakh, i.e. a difference of Rs. 1.16 lakh.

All three of Suzuki’s big bikes were updated earlier this year, with changes limited to new color schemes and compliance with OBD-2B norms.

The GSX-8R is powered by a 776 cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine, which is also found in the V-Strom 800 DE. This engine produces 82 bhp at 8,500 rpm and 78 Nm of torque at 6,800 rpm and is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. At the same time, Hayabusa has a 1,340 cc liquid-cooled inline-four engine which produces 187 bhp at 9,700 rpm and 150 Nm peak torque at 7,000 rpm and is also paired with a 6-speed gearbox.

While larger models have seen a price increase under GST 2.0, Suzuki’s sub-350 cc lineup, which includes both scooters and motorcycles, has moved in the opposite direction. These smaller models have become more affordable, with prices reduced by up to Rs 18,024 as the company passes on the benefits of the revised tax rates to customers.
