Nellore Superintendent of Police (SP) Ajitha Vejendla has warned the people of strict action against fake content on social media platforms. If posts are made on social media to create discord between individuals or institutions, cases will be registered under sections 353 (2) and (3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for circulation of false and malicious information.

“Strict action will be taken against those who post fake content on social media platforms to defame the Police department. Cases will be filed against the individuals, accounts or handles who hide facts and spread false information or lies. Tougher action will be initiated on those who create fake content with the help of AI on sensitive topics that can lead to disputes and conflicts,” she said.

“The people should verify the facts before sharing information, otherwise they will face legal implications. Everyone should cooperate to ensure sharing of constructive and honest exchange of information on social media platforms,” the District SP said, during a press conference in the City on Friday evening.

She further directed the police officers to thoroughly inspect firecracker manufacturing centres, godowns and retail stores to create a conducive environment for all people to celebrate Diwali peacefully and safely.
