BJP to launch ‘Chalo Hyderabad’ next month demanding fee reimbursement dues

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is preparing to launch Chalo Hyderabad in the first week of November to pressure the State government to clear long-pending fee reimbursement dues, which it claimed had impacted nearly 1.5 million students enrolled in private colleges across Telangana.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar announced that the party has pledged full support to college managements and will unveil an action plan within the next two days. This plan may include state-wide demonstrations and other forms of protest. Discussions are underway to mobilise lakhs of students, parents, and staff from private colleges across the State.

Earlier, Mr. Sanjay Kumar, along with Rajya Sabha member K. Laxman, met representatives from private engineering, B.Ed., and other colleges. The college managements expressed deep concern over the government’s failure to honour its promises, including Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s public assurance to release ₹500 crore every month towards fee reimbursement.

However, not a single installment has been paid till date, and the total pending amount has reportedly crossed ₹10,000 crore. Institutions are struggling to pay staff salaries, rent, and maintenance charges. Teachers are finding it difficult to deliver quality education, and students are unable to obtain certificates — jeopardising their academic and career prospects, they claimed.

“The government’s negligence has pushed the future of 15 lakh students into darkness,” said Mr. Sanjay Kumar. He also spoke with BJP Telangana president N. Ramachandra Rao to strategise the party’s response. The BJP has strongly condemned the government’s alleged intimidation tactics, including vigilance raids on colleges that issued strike notices. College representatives stated they are open to inspections but emphasised the need for timely payments to ensure smooth operations.

Condemns arrest

The party has also condemned the arrest of Mr. Ramchander Rao, along with party leaders and workers, at the DGP’s office. Members of the Yuva Morcha and Gau Seva Samithi were also taken into custody while attempting to submit a memorandum demanding strict action against the assailants who allegedly attempted to murder cow protector Sonu Singh, said party spokesperson N.V. Subash.

Speaking to the media before his arrest, Mr. Rao alleged that the Congress government has failed to take action against the culprits who opened fire on Sonu Singh, a Gorakshak, who sustained a bullet injury to his chest and is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital.

Mr. Rao demanded the immediate arrest of the accused and the withdrawal of cases filed against BJP leaders. He further alleged that attacks on Hindu organisations and activists of spiritual groups have increased under the Congress government led by the CM.
