Image credits BHPian RaguHolla recently shared this with other enthusiasts: Two new Pixels entered our home during the Prime Sale in the US: Pixel 9 Pro for my spouse (upgraded from OnePlus 5) Pixel 9 for my motherinlaw (upgraded from OnePlus 7)Why Pixel? Spouse: Needed a reliable phone for social, work apps, and great photos-no iPhone. MIL: Wanted a UI that feels familiar (coming from OnePlus). We tried Motorola Edge 50 Pro last year, but the curved display caused accidental touches and the UI didn’t click. After trying a Pixel at Best Buy, she felt right at home. (Gift from family abroad.) Setup & Migration Data transfer: Google’s builtin transfer tool moved everything-including media-in under ~5 minutes per device. Apps: Needed to relogin, but data stayed intact. No manual copying or cloud juggling. Smooth experience. What Stood Out After a Month Build & Size Both devices feel solid and premium; dimensions are nearly identical. Fingerprint Setup The scanner’s position and expectations around how you place your finger made enrollment tricky-especially with edge/side reads. This coincided with the August 2025 update that affected touch responsiveness. A subsequent patch helped, but the initial experience led to a lot of “it’s not hardware” convincing. Display A clear upgrade from the older phones-bright, sharp, and fluid. Heating Noticeable warmth during charging and heavy screen use. A case helps with comfort; the Pro will throttle when things get hot. Touch Sensitivity (Biggest Pain Point) With tempered glass protectors, both phones struggled with touch and fingerprint reliability. The Pixel 9 was worse in our experience-even with “increased touch sensitivity” enabled and after updates. Fingerprint failures were frequent (roughly 19/20 attempts), and general touch navigation became frustrating. GPay became unreliable for my MIL-unacceptable at this price point. Camera Outstanding. In our everyday use, even the base Pixel 9 consistently produced better photos than the Motorola Edge 50 Pro-especially in mixed/low light. My spouse is very happy with the results.
