Hyderabad: A mobile phone snatcher was injured when police opened fire on him at Chaderghat after he attempted to attack the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) on Saturday afternoon.
According to police, the incident occurred near Victory Playground, Chaderghat, when DCP (South East) S Chaitanya Kumar was on his way to office at Saidabad after attending a meeting at the Hyderabad CP office in Banjara Hills.
“On the way, the DCP noticed a man had snatched a mobile phone and was running. The DCP and his gunman got down from the vehicle and chased the robber to catch him. When the gunman caught the robber, he whipped out a knife and tried to attack them with it. Immediately, the police pulled out their weapon and fired three rounds at the robber,” said an official of Hyderabad police.
A bullet hit and injured the robber. The police immediately shifted him to a private hospital at Nampally for treatment.
On information, senior police officials reached the spot.
