In connection with Police Commemoration Week, Hyderabad City Police, Central Zone, in association with HCL and Hyderabad Cyclists, organised a ‘Cyclothon’ on Sunday to pay tribute to police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
The event, which began at People’s Plaza and concluded at the historic Seven Tombs in Tolichowki, saw enthusiastic participation from around 380 cyclists and 100 police officers and staff. The initiative was conducted under the direction of Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy and City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar.
DCP (Central) K. Shilpavalli attended as the chief guest, along with ACP Gandhinagar Yadagiri, Khairatabad SHO Venkat Reddy and representatives from HCL.
Addressing the participants, DCP Shilpavalli expressed gratitude to HCL and Hyderabad Cyclists for their collaboration in organising the event to commemorate the sacrifices of police martyrs. She urged the public to take part in large numbers in the ‘Mega Blood Donation Camp’ scheduled across all zones of Hyderabad on Monday (October 27).
The DCP also appealed to citizens to promptly report any suspicious activities to Dial 100 or the nearest police station. “A safe and crime-free society can only be built through the cooperation of the public,” she said.
South Zone police also conducted a spirited cycle rally on Sunday as part of the ongoing Police Commemoration Week to honour personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. The rally, held on October 26, began at the historic Charminar and concluded at Q.Q. Stadium, drawing enthusiastic participation from police officers, students and civilians.
The event was flagged off by DCP South Zone, Sneha Mehra, who led the tributes to the fallen heroes. Speaking on the occasion, DCP Sneha Mehra said the rally was a reminder of the courage and sacrifice of police officers who laid down their lives in the line of duty. “Today is a day to remember those who gave their all for our safety. Let us remember the heroes who never gave up on duty,” she said, reaffirming the department’s commitment to uphold their legacy.
DCP Traffic R. Venkateswarlu, along with all South Zone ACPs and SHOs, participated in the event. The rally concluded at Q.Q. Stadium with a prize distribution ceremony for winners of an essay writing competition organised for schoolchildren.
