Launched in April 2024, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx has been a highly successful product, consistently featuring among the top 10 selling SUVs in India. Within the first year of its launch, the compact crossover achieved the 1 lakh sales mark, making it one of the fastest-selling models in its segment.
The Maruti Fronx has always been admired for its modern design, comfort, practicality, features and competitive pricing. Aiming to further boost its sales performance, the carmaker will give two major updates in 2026 – a strong hybrid powertrain and an ADAS (autonomous driver assistance system) suite.

2026 Maruti Fronx Hybrid Powertrain
Maruti Suzuki aims to expand its hybrid product portfolio across its mass-market range using its own strong hybrid technology. According to media reports, the Maruti Fronx will be the brand’s first model to feature an in-house developed hybrid powertrain.
Suzuki Motor Corporation has already stated working on the next-generation 48V Super Ene-Charge (SEC) hybrid system, designed for lightweight and affordable vehicles. It’s said to be more efficient and affordable than Toyota’s Atkinson cycle powertrain.
Upcoming Maruti Hybrid Cars
Powering the Fronx hybrid is likely to be a new 1.0-1.5L turbo petrol engine paired with the hybrid system. This hybrid powertrain will also be offered on the next-generation Maruti Baleno (codenamed YTA) in 2026, followed by the new-gen Swift in 2027 and Brezza in 2029. The carmaker has also planned a sub-4 metre MPV to challenge the Renault Triber and the upcoming Nissan MPV. It will be based on the Japan-spec Spacia and feature Maruti Suzuki’s HEV hybrid powertrain.
2026 Maruti Fronx ADAS Variant
One of the Fronx hybrid test mules was recently spotted with LIDAR sensors, hinting at the presence of ADAS suite. LiDAR technology creates 3D point cloud maps to detect objects and the surrounding environment. The system is likely to offer features such as lane keeping assist, lane departure prevention, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, rear cross traffic alert, high beam assist and more.
