Tata Sierra Petrol & Diesel Launch First; EV Coming in 2026

The all-new Tata Sierra SUV is all set to hit showrooms on November 25, 2025. Tata has adopted a multi-powertrain strategy for its new midsize SUV, similar to what it did with the Curvv and Harrier. Initially, the Sierra will be introduced with the ICE (internal combustion engine) powertrain, while the electric version will follow in early 2026.

The ICE-powered model will be positioned against the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, Kia Seltos and others in the segment. The Sierra EV, on the other hand, will take on the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6 and MG ZS.

Engine Options – What to Expect?

Official engine specifications are yet to be revealed. However, the new Tata Sierra is expected to be offered with two petrol engine options – a 1.5L naturally aspirated and a 1.5L turbocharged. While the former could be limited to the lower variants, the latter will power the higher trims. The all-new 1.5L, 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine, showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo, produces a maximum power of 170bhp at 5,000rpm and 280Nm of torque between 2,000rpm – 3,500rpm.

The Tata Sierra diesel is expected to borrow the 1.5L, 4-cylinder turbo engine from the Curvv. The oil burner, with manual and DCT automatic gearboxes, delivers a claimed power of 115PS and 260Nm of torque.

The electric Sierra might share its powertrains with the Harrier EV, which is available with two battery setups – a 65kWh LFP battery paired with the single motor RWD and a 75kWh battery paired with the single & RWD or dual & AWD configurations.

Triple Screens, ADAS & More

Similar to the Mahindra XEV 9e, the Tata Sierra will offer a triple screen setup including a touchscreen infotainment system, a digital driver’s display and a passenger side touchscreen. Other key features might include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, wireless phone charger, ambient lights, a 360-degree camera, 4-spoke steering wheel, six airbags and more.
