CM committed to raising Muslim quota to 10%: Shabbir

Hyderabad: Govt advisor and former minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir on Friday said chief minister A Revanth Reddy is committed to increasing the Muslim quota from the existing 4% to 10%, once the process of securing 42% reservation for Backward Classes is completed.Speaking to residents in Erragadda during a door-to-door campaign in the Jubilee Hills bypoll, Shabbir said the proposal would be based on findings from the recent caste survey, which showed that over 10.08% of Telangana’s Muslim population belongs to the BC-E category and continues to face economic and educational disadvantage. “The 4% Muslim quota introduced by the previous Congress govt transformed the lives of over 20 lakh poor families. The Congress stands for social justice, not tokenism. Expanding BC and Muslim quotas is about rightful representation, not appeasement,” he said. Accompanied by govt whip A Srinivas and local leaders, Shabbir urged voters to support Congress candidate V Naveen Yadav, alleging that the previous BRS govt had failed to enhance the Muslim quota and neglected minority welfare institutions.
