BHPian audioholic recently shared this with other enthusiasts: Auto Dimming IRVM Install: On our Crysta I recently installed this as I appreciated how useful the auto dimming function is on my Slavia. The Crysta is the choice for my night drives since it has an insane lighting setup and the only hindrance was the sharp LED high beams that people inconsiderately use. The Crysta is not a car I would fly away with if I had someone on my back. Normal cruising at 100-120 will have quite a few people tail and this got annoying at night. Hence decided to install this, one of the very few mods on this car compared to my Slavia. The IRVM is an official Maruti part, and thanks to Leoshashi who helped me source the right parts, and having confirmation from Lalu’s fortuner thread, this was a successful DIY. Cost of the IRVM: 3600Cost of wiring harness from Maruti: 700Cost of the plastic trims to conceal the wire above the mirror: 200The wiring harness is needed to fetch just the connector for the IRVM. The wiring is pretty simple, it needs +12V, Ground and a connection for reverse gear. The reverse function is also nifty since if the mirror is auto dimmed, the moment you switch to reverse gear the function is disabled to ease visibility. The wiring was done to factory spec, without the use of any fuse taps. Since i already had a harness to convert the old head unit to new one, I was able to tap out all the three signals right from the head unit harness. After this, it only involved routing the wire and mounting the mirror. Some pictures can explain the stuff better. First step was to remove the harness and branch out the mirror connections: Harness is complete and tidied up – The black connector(from my VW parts bin) now supplies the mirror its signals: Harness prepared to take the signals half way to the base of the A pillar: First tests of the functioning and the harness: Head unit removed to access the rear side and route the harness Wire is initially routed from back of head unit till the base of the A pillar. The side trim has to be removed to access this area: To this place, the other half of the harness from the mirror will run along the roof liner, then A pillar behind the trim and meet us here: Final fit and finish: Final functioning video link Check out BHPian comments for more insights and information.
