Pune to Devgad via the Tamhini ghat route: Update on road conditons

Pune to Devgad via the Tamhini ghat route: Update on road conditons BHPian DilSe Tata recently shared this with other enthusiasts: Finally got an alternative route. Travelled on 22nd Oct from PCMC to Devgad and returned on 28th Oct. Took the longer route via Tamhini ghat. Wanted to explore the route and enjoy the NH66 also wanted to avoid the frequent tantrums the Pune Bengaluru plays when I travel through Anuskura ghat. Onward journey started around 10 am. Was at Mangaon for lunch time at 12:30- Tamhini was a bit crowded and overtaking was a tedious task. Food was good at Hotel Majghar. Bypassed the Mangaon traffic jam by taking a route through Pachad from Nijampur. Excellent route, scenic, historic and mostly empty. NH66 is much better than NH48, apart from the ongoing roadwork from Sangameshwar to Lanja. The road is treat for driving. Return journey started at 10:15 am and reached home at 8:45 pm. Took halts at Nandgaon for breakfast vadapavs. Lunch at Konkani Kitchen Ratnagiri Hatkhamba. Exact location is Bhagirathi petrol pump. Authentic homely food. must visit. Took the route from Pachad again and crossed the Tamhini ghat after dark. No traffic until we reached the dreaded weekday traffic of Hinjewadi. Overall, this route is a good option if you don’t like to be on idling burning fuel and watching the rear bumper of the vehicle in front of you and sharing the rear view mirror, concluding that there is no way out of the long traffic queue. Limited food options, but a journey in which you stop only when you want. Read BHPian comments for more insights and information.
