‘Mega Power Star’ Tag Is Back

When Ram Charan made his entry in Tollywood 18 years ago, Mega fans hailed him as the successor of their demi god Megastar Chiranjeevi. They believed that Charan will carry forward the legacy of the illustrious Mega family along with his uncle Power star Pawan Kalyan after Chiranjeevi. So, they lavished him with the tag ‘ Mega Power Star ( a combination of both tags of Chiru and Pawan ).

Following the global success of RRR and the wide critical acclaim for his performance in the film, Mega fans started calling him a Global Star after some Hollywood critics described him in their columns. Soon, the ‘Global Star’ tag became popular and even industry circles and Charan’s PR team also started accepting it without much ado even though the actor himself never liked it or wanted to be called so.

Simultaneously, there has been considerable criticism from fans of other actors and film analysts as many felt that conferring such universal titles on young actors even when seasoned stars like Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Chiranjeevi, Amitabh Bachchan etc. who were popular all over globe long back in their careers were never projected as Global Stars by their fandoms.

Moreover, the Global Star tag is turning out to be a burden for Charan because whenever his movies fail to perform on par with expectations, critics point out the justification for it. There were reports that even Charan also was not pleased with audience calling him a Global Star and wanted to disown the tag immediately.

Now, the makers of his upcoming film Peddi made a conscious decision to avoid any further controversy and call him as ‘Mega Power Star’. In all the posters including the first look of Jahnvi Kapoor unveiled this Saturday, the team of Peddi projected Charan as Mega Power Star. This is a sensible decision by director Buchi Babu and his team to make sure that the noise around the Global Star tag fades away and people await for Charan’s strong comeback with Peddi after tasting huge debacle with Game Changer.

Peddi is a rustic actioner set in the backdrop of multiple sports and village politics. AR Rahman is scoring the soundtrack. The film is slated for release on March 26th next year.
