Travelogue: Bangalore to Somnath and Dwarka with my Mitsubishi Montero

Travelogue: Bangalore to Somnath and Dwarka with my Mitsubishi Montero BHPian K a s h recently shared this with other enthusiasts: We recently visited Somnath + Dwarka during Pooja holidays from Bangalore. I drove down in my Montero with my son while other family members took the flight to Rajkot. I started 2 days early and picked them up from Rajkot airport. This was a good chance for me to spend some time with my teenage son. We discussed many topics ranging from friends, food, cars to wind mills, future plans etc. We cherished the local cuisine and tried to have as much fun as possible. This is the complete route plan for this 11 day trip. Bangalore – Rajkot – Gir – Somnath – Dwarka – Rajkot – Bangalore. Got the car prepped for the drive -> Preparing an old SUV for the Long drive Bangalore to Rajkot was around 1750 kms. On the day of the journey, Google did not even list the route via Pune because it had so many diversions. So the route planned was Bangalore – Solapur – Beed – Surat – Vadodara – Rajkot – Gir I had no plans to drive at night and wanted to stop driving around 7 pm everyday. Our target was to cover 850 on day 1 and halt at Beed for the night. Loaded up on A2B Dosa and Vadas for breakfast because we are going to miss them for a few days. Roads were inviting and we started the trip on a good note 🙂 I had set the cruise control at 90 kmph and the car was munching miles effortlessly. As soon as we crossed into MH, the condition of the roads started getting worse. The NH52 had very high volume of heavy vehicles and they have started forming ruts in the fast lane. I had to slow down because the car was tramlining in the ruts. I had to move over to the slow lane. Closer to Solapur, the highway was blocked due to rain damage and we were routed through Kamti. That road had a 30 kms of trucks stuck in a major jam. Lost around 2 hours to cross that stretch. Reached Beed around 7 pm. Our stay for the night was Hotel Rivera. Trip stats for the day.Continue reading BHPian K a s h’s post for more insights and information.
