Toyota India has issued a voluntary recall for the new Camry after a software issue affected the car’s 360-degree cameras. This recall will affect 2,257 Camry cars manufactured between July 2024 and September 2025. It is expected that Toyota dealers will contact owners directly for vehicle inspection and repair.

According to information provided to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, Toyota says that the affected vehicles may have problems with the rearview camera function due to faulty software in the ‘parking assist ECU’. The company says that due to this software error, the rearview display image may freeze briefly if the vehicle is put into reverse ‘within a certain period of time after the ignition is turned on’. The brand further added that if ‘the ignition is turned on or off within a certain period of time,’ the display may not activate even on the next start-up.

As far as the safety recall is concerned, it is not expected to have any serious consequences in everyday driving, although drivers should avoid relying solely on the rearview camera display when turning. While turning back, it is also important to use the rear-view mirror to accurately check for any obstacles behind the vehicle.

The new Camry, now in its ninth generation, was launched in India late last year. The sedan is available in a single fully feature loaded variant, with buyers also given the option of a special edition Camry Sprint variant at no extra cost.
