BHPian dkaile recently shared this with other enthusiasts:Toyota Hycross Stereo Removal:With the Observation phase now entering the Intense phase ~ Lolz, and with many other accessories installations on the anvil, I removed the 10.1″ Touchscreen, to checkout the wiring of door speakers and how to add the Hertz Powered Subwoofer (and any DSP/Amplifier in the future). You start by removing the plastic cover behind the stereo, which easily pulls out as shown – The plastic cover removed, which is just held by push tabs – Next job is to remove the 4x 10mm bolts (2 on each side) holding the stereo in place – The 4 bolts removed – The stereo is still held in place by plastic tabs and is nudged forward as shown – The whole unit comes out easily. Note the Model number. It’s a Denso Japan unit which is Made in India (err ~ assembled) by Uno Minda – Notice that it has been tropicalised for South East Asia (India) and has a Fan on the side – The whole unit slides out. Be careful not to scratch anything especially the glossy black plastic surround – The stock Wiring at the rear – I had also procured a Toyota T-Harness (visible in the picture), from the local market, to piggyback on the stock speaker connector, to connect any Amplifier/DSP/Subwoofer, as mentioned earlier, without touching the OE wiring – Another look at the aftermarket vs the stock speaker connector. The aftermarket one, was not of a very high quality, and fitted a little tightly in the stock stereo and needed a little bit of filing to fit correctly. Hence I ordered a proper Harness from AliExpress (as mentioned in my previous post) – Please note the Stock Stereo Connector’s wiring colours (will be needed subsequently) and also that the aftermarket one had 2 extra brown wires on one end (which were not needed), as it was a 10 pin connector and only 8 wires (for the 4 speakers) are connected – This is correct Wiring Legend and Polarity of all Non-JBL Hycross stereo’s. Please NOTE that the Front Right (i.e. the Driver’s Door) wiring is wired in reverse, as I later found out, just like what I had read on international forums about RAV4. This is done deliberately by Toyota, to reduce the bass of the driver door side and somewhat increase the clarity of the overall sound signature. One of Toyota’s many quirks – Another look at the aftermarket Toyota T-Harness – The stereo was completely removed. Another view of all the stock wiring – A view of the stereo from the Rear. Note the 2 connectors which supply wiring to the JBL Amplifier are not connected in the GXO as the amplifier is not present, but basic stereo seems to be exact same as the ZXO – The stereo was fitted back in reverse order after all this R&D. Now so many goodies had arrived and itching to be installed ~ Lolz – Door Panels Removal Guide on Toyota Hycross:I started with the driver’s door (Front Left) and the first job is to slide this plastic tab down to reveal the 2 hidden screws – Next is to remove the 3rd screw after jutting out the plastic tab behind the chrome door handle. All 3 screws are now visible and marked by red arrows – Notice that the top screw is different from the 2 below ones – Next job is release the door switch panel which juts out easily – And remove the 2 connectors as marked by the arrows – The door switch panel removed. Now we can move on to just pushing out the entire door panel out, gently, which is held in place by plastic rivets – The entire plastic door panel trim removed. Notice all the white plastic rivets (with black foam washers) and 1 red rivet on top – This is how the bared door panel now looks, still protected by another removable white plastic cover, which Toyota has given by default instead of just a polythene film (as on the rear doors), which helps in sound dampening by default. This cover is held in place by 3 locks (as circled) and some plastic rivet locks marked by arrows – A closer look at the plastic lock and it’s lock/unlock position. Note the Toyota Embossing on the door panel – Time to remove the Door Latch Wires as marked. The just come out easily from the ball and socket joint – A closer look at the Door Switch Panel which is partially unlit and which will be replaced by a fully lit one soon as mentioned in my earlier post – It’s back view – All the dissected parts of the Driver’s Door Panel – cont. – MUCH MUCH more to follow. Cheers…Continue reading BHPian dkaile’s post for more insights and information.
