AP govt challenges CAT order on reinstatement of IPS officer Vishal Gunni in HC

Vijayawada: The state govt on Thursday moved the high court challenging the orders of the central administrative tribunal (CAT), which set aside the suspension of IPS officer Vishal Gunni and directed to reinstate him in service by giving him a posting and consequential benefits.Gunni moved the CAT challenging his suspension after he was named as an accused in the case registered pursuant to a complaint lodged by a Mumbai-based actress. She alleged harassment and of being implicated in a false case by senior police officers, including Gunni, a DIG rank officer. After hearing Gunni’s petition, the CAT recently ordered the state govt to reinstate him, observing that the grounds on which the suspension orders were given were untenable. On Thursday, when the matter was called out for hearing before a bench of Justices Ch Manavendranath Roy and G Tuhin Kumar, the govt pleader for services, GVL Murthy, requested an adjournment. He stated that advocate general Dammalapati Srinivas would argue the case but was unavailable due to other engagements. Considering his request, the high court posted the matter for hearing to Nov 11.
