BHPian dkaile recently shared this with other enthusiasts:Toyota Hycross Ambient Lights Installation:This was the Final Result at the Front – And at the Rear – And from the Driver’s Seat (notice all the switches and upgrades visible) – And you even get a Remote to Control it all ~ And it even Dances synced to your Music! – Too much to ask for, for just 250/- Bucks?? Even I didn’t believe it, when I ordered this Car Atmosphere Light (as they call it) from Amazon – https://www.amazon.in/dp/B09CGLP96C?…fed_asin_title ; In fact, it’s proper installation and customisation, with a On/Off Switch on the dashboard, took much more time, money and effort than the product itself. This is the Official Toyota Accessory, called Leg Room Lamp (or Footwell Lights) in Toyota’s terminology, but I would like to keep things simple and just call it Ambient Lights. Now Ambient Lights, come in many taste and varieties, shapes and sizes, some even costing 25,000/- bucks from Cardi!! that is custom made for Toyota Zenix/Hycross, and even has custom replaceable panels and what not. I liked to keep things simple and had used a similar product on my 2020 Baleno, which was going strong even after 5 years. This is Toyota’s part# and MRP ~ a whopping Rs. 10,259/- (after GST reduction). Now you can Thank Me for the (saved) 10 grand! – These are the 4 Round Blue Lights that you get along with the wiring harness etc. – Holes need to be drilled in plastic parts to install it, and we all know how Toyota workshop technicians drill their holes – And this is the final look of that product – So this is a rough drawing of the basic layout as to how these Atmosphere Lights will be installed. It comes with a Cigarette Light Adapter with a on/off switch! included in the package, which I discarded, as I wanted a totally hidden and oem setup, which I could control by a On/Off Switch, already installed, as detailed in my previous post. The Main Control Unit, with IR remote sensor and a Mic (to control dancing lights synced to the music playing), was tucked just below the steering behind the plastic panel, so that I could control the lights by the included remote. The Left Rear Light (marked as 3 in red) barely reached there, as you will see in the photo, due to the (lack of) wire length included. Otherwise it was a pristine install and all wires were neatly tucked under the plastic panels with ZERO visibility and OE finish – This is the Wiring Diagram and only the switch was used with direct (+) input from the ACC Fuse Box (as detailed before) and Chassis Ground (-). The 12V plug shown in the picture, directly plugs into the Main Control Unit – Both the Chassis Ground Points used for these lights (the switch and light), are visible in this photo, just behind the glove box – The (+) was tapped from 1 of the 4 outputs (already explained earlier) that I had prepared from the Fuse Tap connected to the 12V Power Socket Fuse – I had lots of these 10 bucks connectors lying around, out of which the male one with the 2 wires, was used – The Ambient Light Circuit was now LIVE and therefore both the switches came alive in the dashboard, as visible – A Day View, of how the Front 2 Lights were stuck, in the footwell, by the included 3M tape at their back. Notice that no wiring is visible – Night View of the Front lights – Day View of the Rear Left Footwell light, which barely reached there, held securely by just 1 zip tie – Night View of the same – You can even control the Brightness of these lights by the remote, and it remembers each setting even after ignition on/off. This is at it’s Highest Brightness – And this is the Lowest with 7 to 8 steps in between – You can even Change the Colors of these lights to your choice by the remote (which again it remembers after ignition on/off). The above one’s were it’s default White color, which looks a little bluish to me. This is the Toyota’s Blue (which incidentally you can’t change with the OE product) – Red – Green – Yellow – Violet – And then these can also be set to (1 of 4) settings to Dance with your Music. Incredible!! for the price. I made a short video of the same – A Perspective View of the Front. Also note the Upgraded LED Cabin Lights and their brightness – and then The Rear and the brightness of the Blaupunkt LED Cabin Light at the rear – View from the 3rd Row of seats – And Night View of the Boot with the SubWoofer (notice it’s Blue power on light) and the brightness of the Upgraded Boot Light – I can’t emphasis how much pleasure I drew from this 250 bucks upgrade. Some things in life, Money can’t Buy ~ Lolz – Diwali had arrived – MUCH more to come. Cheers…Check out BHPian comments for more insights and information.
