The ongoing technical glitch at the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Friday (November 7), had a ripple effect at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) with several flights operating between the two cities getting delayed.
According to data from the flight tracking platform FlightRadar24, at least 21 flights between Hyderabad and Delhi, including 11 arrivals and 10 departures, were delayed between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. While no official statement was issued by Hyderabad airport authorities, most of the affected flights were operated by IndiGo, followed by Air India and Akasa Air.
The disruption originated from a glitch in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), which facilitates communication and data exchange for ATC operations in Delhi. The malfunction led to widespread delays in departing flights from the national capital, triggering a cascading impact across multiple airports in the country.
Airlines and airports took to social media platform X on Friday morning to alert passengers about the disruption and advise them to check for updates. IndiGo, which operates a significant number of flights on the Delhi–Hyderabad route, first posted at 9.05 a.m. about delays due to the glitch, followed by updates at noon and 1.14 p.m. stating that efforts were underway to restore normal operations. Another alert at 4 p.m. confirmed that the issue was still being resolved.
By 7 p.m., Delhi Airport issued a statement on X confirming that flight operations remained affected and urged passengers to follow updates from their respective airlines for revised schedules.
