Jeep Compass 4×4 diesel review: 4 years, 40,000 km of pure confidence

Jeep Compass 4×4 diesel review: 4 years, 40,000 km of pure confidence BHPian sheelapratosh recently shared this with other enthusiasts: It’s been 4 years since I brought home my Jeep Compass Model S 4×4 Diesel. Here is my take on the car based on my Jeep life. Odometer reading: 40000 As you can see from my odometer reading, my my running is very low for a 4-year duration. 80% of the drive is on highways and the rest in Bangalore city. After 40,000 miles, the average mileage is about 13.8. This is based on one trip meter, which I didn’t reset from the time I bought the car. During highway runs, I get close to 17-18 if I maintain around 90-100 km/h speed. But this car is so good – You really cannot stay at 90 and whenever I push it above 110, I see the mileage drop two around 14 to 15, so that’s about the mileage of the Car. This car is perfect for the highways. You get a sense of a well-built tank whenever you’re in this car, and at high speeds, you can feel that it is always planted. Never once in the last four years, I had any fear of overtaking any vehicle or losing balance, even when I do sharp turns, even at 80 km speed. I have not even once felt the vehicle was out of my control. Another notable thing I like is the way the hill ascent/descent function operates when I am in the city, especially in underground parking. I have owned an XUV 500 before, but I never had this level of driving confidence compared to this car. In these four years of ownership, I have not faced any mechanical issues with the car. The only expenses I have incurred with this Car are the regular yearly maintenance charges. I try my best to stick to the mandatory service aspects of the car, but still the service center sneaks in some unwanted third-party items like AC duct cleaning, etc., while they are nice to have expenses.. I don’t like the way the service advisor adds them. So here is the actual amount spent during my services in the last four years : 1st 13660 2nd 19634 3rd 34248 4th 28203 Total 95745 I’m still running the stock tires. Based on the service engineer, these tires have another 4-5000 kms left in them. Brake pads were changed in the last service. The battery was changed during the 3rd year of service. No other unplanned expense other than the preventive items as per Jeep. Right after buying the car. I spent a lot of time complaining about minor squeaks in the car. If I sit back and look at all those issues I posted in this forum, it feels like an immature reaction. All I had were minor squeaks here and there, which got started out by the Service team in no time. I think most of us do this mistake of expecting the car to be one hundred percent perfect when we take it from the showroom. I think if only we adjust our mindset to accept a couple of minor issues here and there and get them sorted out as part of our first Service or whatever, we might enjoy our ride better, compared to finding faults with the brand-new car. That’s just my perspective. I’ve taken this car on multiple highway runs. I have driven this car extensively in the Ooty area as I belong to that place. I have done the Kalhatty road at least 6-7 times. I had driven on a variety of local roads in Tamil Nadu & Karnataka. Yes.. I used it in the horrible Bangalore roads pretty much every day. In terms of 4×4, I have done a bit of sand and hill sections. I don’t think I have done offloading for more than 3-4 hours in all these 4 years. So that’s a feature wasted for my use case. (At the time of purchase, Jeep didn’t have a 4×2 diesel auto) Okay. The car is a bit expensive and it is also small compared to the amount of money you spend. There is not a single feature that is missing in this car, except ADA,S which I don’t care about. I have not had a single issue with my Apple CarPlay. Neither did I have any issue with any of the digital instrument cluster display, etc. One thing I can never understand is the amount of bad mouthing about the Jeep Compass. I really don’t know if people complain about them after owning one or without buying one. End of the day.. I am one happy customer of Jeep. Since I had a ppf on it from day 1, the beauty is still maintaining the shine. Check out BHPian comments for more insights and information.
