One of the films that hit the theaters this week is the horror thriller film ‘Deus Ere’ which was released in Malayalam last week and got a solid hit. Let’s see in the review how this movie directed by Bhramayugam director Rahul Sadashivan starring legendary actor Mohanlal’s son Pranav Mohanlal as the hero.
Story:
Rohan (Pranav Mohanlal), an architect, visits his ex-girlfriend Kani’s (Sushmita Bhatt) house after she has committed suicide. When he goes and reaches his home, the situation around him becomes strange and embarrassing for him. With this, Kanie seeks help from Madhu (Gibin Gopinath), who lives next door, as Kanine turns into a ghost and causes trouble. What is the truth known in their investigation? Is it the soul or someone else who is really troubling Rohan? Why did Kani die? Who is Philip and Manu in this sum? Whether Rohan finally got out of that spirit or not is the rest of the story.
Plus Points:
It should be said that director Rahul Sadashivan, who has a basic idea for this movie, has tried to provide some good suspense and thrill moments from his side to the Telugu audience. The screenplay that he has designed scene by scene is still good in the film, the tempo maintained here and there. The set-up designed in a very natural way is pleasing in the movie.
Also many horror moments can thrill the general audience. Moreover, the story becomes interesting for a few minutes in the second half. A twist in the story as well as the last 20 to 25 minutes and the horror lead given in the climax impressed. And Mohanlal’s son Pranav Mohanlal gave a good performance in this movie.
It must be said that he is good in terms of his looks and he has given a natural performance according to the situation in the scenes. Gibin Gopinath, who appeared as a supporting actor, did well in his role. His performance in some tense scenes is good. Along with them, Jaya Kurup, who acted as Elsamma in the climax, gave a solid performance. Her performance in the climax and the action layer on her are pleasing.
Minus Points:
Completely a solid horror thriller for those who like good interesting moments and logical twists but this movie will not please them completely. Although it is based on real life events, some questions seem to be left without logic.
The twist in the movie is good but the scenes shown accordingly seem to lack logic. Why does the devil bother others? Scenes like how Kani died were not shown. The details behind them remain in question. Moreover, even in the scenes with the hero, at first we think the reason is one, but later it turns out to be different.
There is no logic in that other reason either. Also, there are not many scary horror moments in the movie. Those who watch less horror movies may feel a little scared, but for those who watch them regularly, those scenes are very routine without much fear.
In addition to these, when it comes to the climax, who is the real demon? Like the reason behind it may not connect to everyone. If the music is good in such movies, it helps the audience to get absorbed, but in this movie, the score will be remembered after hearing the music already. Thaman’s score for the Kanchana series is almost unforgettable.
Technical category:
The production values in this movie are decent. The desired production design and set-up were done very well. The music is not that effective but the camera work is good in the movie. Some of the frames are very good. Editing is fine. Telugu dubbing is good.
And when it comes to the director Rahul Sadashivan.. his work is somewhat pleasing to this movie. Although this movie is based on real events, some questions seem to be left as such. Missed the logic. Also, in some places, the story was decently maintained in the second half. But everything else seems so-so.
Verdict:
If we look at it as a whole, it can be said that this movie ‘Deus Ere’ is a horror thriller that seems to be somewhat okay here and there. The movie feels decent in the second half and climax portions. A few thrill moments are also okay. But it’s not a thoroughly satisfying horror thriller. There are no main logical scenes in the movie, but these are questions. So this film seems useless for some moments. .
