I bought a used Mahindra e-Verito for 3 lakh, now it’s my favourite car

I bought a used Mahindra e-Verito for 3 lakh, now it’s my favourite car BHPian sahil044 recently shared this with other enthusiasts: Hey fellow BHPians, Earlier this year, I picked up a used 2021 Mahindra e-Verito D2 for just under 3 lakh – and it has quietly become my favorite city car. It was originally meant for my dad to retire his 15-year-old Santro… but as fate would have it, he refused to sell it (still emotionally attached). He also found the Verito a bit too long and low to drive comfortably through potholes and while reversing – despite a rear HD camera. So it’s now become my daily ride, and surprisingly, I’m loving it more than expected. Here’s a quick lowdown on my experience so far: Why I Bought This CarI was looking for something economical, low-maintenance, and city-friendly. ICE options in this budget were usually too old, too thirsty, or unreliable. Then I stumbled across this amazing thread – “Bargain EV | My 2021 Mahindra E-Verito Ownership Review” by BHPian 123.rishabh – which gave me the confidence to try out a used e-Verito. The Car & Initial DetailsModel: 2021 Mahindra e-Verito D2Odo at purchase: ~24,500 kmOdo now (Aug 2025): ~26,700 kmCharging: Standard 15A socket at homeAC: Always onRange observed: ~60-90 km (from 100% to 20% SoC)Battery: 18.55 kWh usable (based on smart-plug readings – actual usable capacity likely slightly lower)What I PaidVehicle: 2.xx lakhRC Transfer & RTO: 3-4kInsurance: 4k (renewed June/July)Charging plug, earthing & wiring setup at home: 10kTotal on-road + setup cost: Just under 3 lakh.EV vs ICE Cost ComparisonMy daily commute has quietly increased – largely because of how cheap this EV is to run. To put things in perspective:Kia Sonet (1-day Delhi-Gurgaon round trip, ~100 km): 700-1,000 in petrole-Verito (entire month, ~700 km): 950-1,250 in electricityBreakup:Charging from 20% 100% = ~14.8 kWhElectricity rate = 7/unit (home)Cost per charge = 103.6Real-world range = ~60-90 km per chargeCost/km = 1.15 – 1.73 (with AC on full time)EV Quirks & Fixes The e-Verito has a small 12V lead-acid battery that powers onboard electronics. If its voltage drops below 12V, you might see weird issues – no power, no dashboard, random errors like “contractor” or “communication error.” I replaced it with: Custom 12V 15Ah LFP battery Added a 12V socket with voltmeter. Still, I faced a couple of “dead” moments. Thankfully, the car has a simple reset switch under the boot – flip it, and it’s back alive in seconds. The first time was scary, but now it’s like rebooting a computer.Hot Weather ObservationsDuring the peak Delhi summer (May-June heatwave), I noticed:SoC drop of ~4-6% per day when parked in the sunRange dipped slightlyAC struggled a bit during the afternoon heatWorks great in mornings and eveningsSome cooling effort likely goes into thermal management of the batteryStill managed ~60-90 km per charge with AC always running.Driving ExperienceSmooth and silent – classic EV traitsHydraulic steering slightly heavy at low speeds but fine once movingNo gear shifts = stress-free drivingSoft suspension, but low GC + long wheelbase = occasional scrapingTop speed ~85 km/h – perfectly fine for city runsI’m planning to teach my wife to drive in this. It’s perfect – calm, quiet, and forgiving.Monthly SnapshotMonthly drive: ~700 kmElectricity rate: 7/unitCost per charge: ~130Monthly charging cost: 950 – 1,250Observed range: 60-90 km per charge (100% 20% SoC)Service & Upcoming TasksNo service issues so farWill get battery health checked at next serviceFinal ThoughtsI went in with modest expectations. What I got is an EV that’s incredibly cheap to run, relaxing to drive, and – most importantly – reliable (once you understand its quirks). Sure, the resale value isn’t great, but that’s exactly why it’s such a good buyer’s market. With home charging, predictable use, and the right expectations, it’s an ideal second (or even first) car. A big thanks again to 123.rishabh (for his “Bargain EV | My 2021 Mahindra e-Verito Ownership Review”) for inspiring this purchase. Happy to answer any questions or share more details. Cheers!
