Tirupati: The Union government has sanctioned ₹115 crore for developing an underpass at the Chinthareddy Palem flyover on National Highway-16, aimed at enhancing road safety for the citizens of Nellore city.The entry point into the city from the highway has long remained an accident-prone stretch, as vehicles attempting to cross over to the other side faced danger from speeding container lorries and long-distance buses.Nellore TDP MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy had met Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari four times after his election, submitting representations and regularly following up with officials of the ministry.The project includes developing a service road from Chinthareddy Palem Junction to Muthukur Road, providing a safety corridor for road users and shielding them from fast-moving highway traffic.Prabhakar Reddy formally thanked Nitin Gadkari and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu for the sanction of funds and expressed confidence that the underpass at the flyover would make road travel safer for the people of Nellore.
