Yamaha has expanded its extremely popular FZ range of 150 cc naked motorcycles with the launch of the new Yamaha FZ-RAVE, priced at Rs.1,17,218 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The FZ-RAVE is similar to the other FZ and FZ-S models in Yamaha’s 150 cc FZ series available on sale in India, but with a few minor changes. The FZ-RAVE gets a new full-LED projector headlamp with integrated position light. The FZ-RAVE is available with red alloy wheels and is available in two colors – Metallic Black and Matte Titan.

It is powered by the same 149 cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, SOHC, two-valve engine that produces 12.2 bhp at 7,250 rpm and 13.3 Nm of peak torque at 5,500 rpm. It has the same 5-speed gearbox. Other key dimensions like 13-litre fuel tank, 136 kg curb weight, 790 mm seat height, 165 mm ground clearance also remain the same. All other hardware including diamond frame, telescopic front fork, front and rear disc brakes with single-channel ABS remains the same as the other 149 cc FZ models.
Over 27.5 lakh (2.75 million) FZ-S motorcycles are already on Indian roads, and Yamaha will look to add new charm to the model range with the FZ-RAVE. First launched in 2006, the Yamaha FZ series is still quite influential in the premium commuter motorcycle segment, having established itself as a model with linear acceleration, responsive performance, streamlined dynamics and good mileage. Although many rivals claim better performance, the Yamaha FZ still has loyal fans.
With a price tag of Rs.1.17 lakh (ex-showroom), Yamaha will be expected to introduce the FZ-RAVE as a new variant in the FZ series, taking on competition like the Bajaj Pulsar 150 (Twin Disc), priced at Rs.1.12 lakh (ex-showroom), and the TVS Apache RTR 160, priced at Rs.1.15 lakh (ex-showroom).
