A lot has been said and reported ahead of the official arrival of the new-generation Toyota Fortuner, and for good reason it’s one of the much-awaited SUV launches of the coming year. However, its official launch date and other key details are still under wraps. The 2026 Toyota Fortuner is likely to share several design elements, features and components with the next-gen Toyota Hilux, which recently made its global debut.

Future-Focused Design
Similar to the all-new Hilux, the next-gen Fortuner is likely to feature a ‘future-focussed’ design language, highlighted by a newly-designed grille, sleeker headlamps housing LED DRLs within, circular fog lamp assembly and redesigned front and rear bumpers with a skid plate.

ADAS & several new features
Inside, the new 2026 Toyota Fortuner is expected to share a strong resemblance with the Hilux. The SUV might adopt Toyota’s “Robust Simplicity” approach and come with a large, freestanding touchscreen infotainment system, a new fully-digital instrument cluster, redesigned dashboard, wireless charger and an electronic parking brake with auto hold.
The infotainment unit could be supported by the latest-generation software, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This time around, the Fortuner could also be offered with a panoramic view monitor, ‘Toyota Safety Sense 3’ ADAS suite and a multi-terrain monitor. Features such as new steering wheel, premium audio system, height adjustable headrests, multiple Type-C USB charging ports and rear centre armrest might also be the part of the package.
Engines to be retained
The new 2026 Toyota Fortuner is expected to retain the existing 2.8L diesel and 2.7L petrol engines in India. The diesel motor, with a 6-speed manual and an automatic gearbox, delivers a maximum power of 204PS and torque of up to 500Nm. The petrol engine churns out power worth 166PS and 245Nm of torque. It can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Both RWD and 4WD drivetrains will continue to be on offer.
