Hyderabad: Air quality across Telangana remained in the moderate category during the first week of November, according to data from the Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) and the Central Pollution Control Board’s (CPCB) Sameer app.
Between November 1 and 11, the state recorded an average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 89, with readings varying significantly across Hyderabad and surrounding industrial zones. Monitoring stations at Bolaram (81.6 AQI), Sanathnagar (60), Pashamylaram (49) and the University of Hyderabad (47.6) reported moderate levels, while Nehru Zoo Park recorded a cleaner reading of 29, falling in the good range.
Real-time data recorded on November 12 showed fluctuating AQI levels across the city — the University of Hyderabad (133), New Malakpet (92), Bolaram (110), IDA Pashamylaram (52), Kokapet (43), IITH Kandi (163), Nacharam (84), Sanathnagar (166), Somajiguda (63) and Nehru Zoo Park (165).
Health experts have advised people with asthma and respiratory ailments to exercise caution. The Government General and Chest Hospital, Hyderabad, reported a 20 per cent increase in outpatients indirectly affected by changing air quality.
Dr Sravan, superintendent of the hospital, told Deccan Chronicle, “Asthma patients must be cautious. Air pollution may not be a direct cause, but it contributes indirectly. We have seen about a 20 per cent rise in outpatients due to seasonal chest infections.”
