Sachin Sawant appointed AICC secretary for Telangana

Hyderabad: AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday appointed Maharashtra Congress leader Sachin Sawant as one of the AICC secretaries for Telangana.He will be the second AICC secretary, alongside Perumal Vishwanathan, to work in coordination with AICC in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan in Telangana. Sawant is likely to be given the responsibility of 7 to 8 parliamentary constituencies in the state. The AICC has also appointed senior Telangana Congress leader and former working president Jetti Kusum Kumar as the AICC secretary for Odisha.Reacting to the development, in a post on X, Sawant said: “Deeply humbled and grateful to UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi ji, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge ji (@kharge), Leader of Opposition (Lok Sabha) Shri @RahulGandhi ji, and AICC GS (Org.) K.C. Venugopal ji (@kcvenugopalmp) and AICC In-charge Telangana Meenakshi Natarajan ji for entrusting me with the responsibility as AICC Secretary In-charge, Telangana. I pledge to work with utmost dedication to strengthen the Congress organisation and carry forward our shared vision for Telangana and the nation,” he added.Sawant’s appointment is among nine new AICC secretaries assigned to various states. Sources in the AICC said more changes are expected ahead of the 2026 assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala, Puducherry and West Bengal.
