A 21-year-old man who murdered a woman at her home and fled with her gold and cash was arrested by the Jagadgirigutta police along with the Balanagar Special Operation Team (SOT) and Central Crime Station (CCS) teams.
The incident came to light on November 12, when 21-year-old Yeramala Niharika, a resident of Venkateshwara Nagar, was found dead in her bathroom under suspicious circumstances.
Investigations revealed that the accused, Boggula Shiva Madhava Reddy, known to the victim from their native village in Khammam, was heavily in debt due to online betting and alcohol addiction.
Police said he targeted Niharika after learning that she remained alone at home once her husband left for work. Under the pretence of a casual visit, he entered the house, waited until neighbours were out of sight, and then throttled her to death in the bedroom.
After the murder, he allegedly removed her gold mangalsutra, earrings, three rings and ₹2,500 in cash, before attempting to stage the scene as an accidental fall. He moved the body to the bathroom, used two doors to manipulate the locks from inside and outside, and left the house around 2.30 p.m. to mislead investigators.
He later mortgaged the stolen gold at Manappuram Finance for ₹3.06 lakh, using a friend’s identity.
Police recovered a blood-stained sweater, the accused’s motorcycle, two mobile phones, a gold mortgage receipt and other evidence during the arrest.
Officers said the case was cracked through a combination of CCTV analysis, technical surveillance and extensive field verification.
