Hyderabad police to travel agencies


Hyderabad: Waking up to different threats, Hyderabad Police have asked the travel agencies to verify passengers with valid ID proofs and maintain digital as well as physical records for public safety.

Police held a meeting with over 50 travel agency owners and managers to reinforce strict adherence to safety norms, mandatory verification procedures, and statutory regulations.

The session, chaired by North Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) S Rashmi Perumal, emphasized the need for all travel operators to comply with the Telangana State Public Safety Act, BNSS provisions, and other statutory requirements.

Focus on Compliance and Public Safety

Officials highlighted the importance of transparency in travel operations, robust passenger verification, and preventive measures to stop the misuse of travel services for unlawful activities. Travel operators were also briefed on the legal consequences of lapses that compromise public safety.

Key instructions for Travel Agencies:

Mandatory Verification & Record-Keeping

Agencies must verify passengers with valid ID proofs and maintain digital as well as physical records. Booking logs, staff information, and vehicle deployment details should be updated and readily available for police inspection.

CCTV Installation

All offices and buses should be equipped with CCTV cameras with the required minimum backup period.

Reporting Suspicious Activity

Operators were instructed to immediately alert the nearest police station about suspicious persons or activities.

Curbing Online Frauds

Agencies must prevent the involvement of unauthorized agents and educate customers to avoid online ticket fraud.

Prior Intimation to Police

Special tours, high-risk travelers, or emergency travel requirements should be communicated to the police in advance.

Strengthened Coordination

Quick communication channels with local police should be established to ensure a timely response during emergencies.

Staff Background Checks

Employee verification and maintenance of updated staff records were made mandatory.

Safe Boarding Points

Agencies were advised to ensure proper lighting at pick-up and drop-off points, particularly at night.

Fire Safety & Vehicle Readiness

Strict adherence to fire safety norms and regular vehicle maintenance was stressed to prevent avoidable accidents.

Warning against negligence

The DCP cautioned that any negligence or violation that endangers public safety will invite stringent legal action. The North Zone Police reiterated their commitment to ensuring safe and secure travel in Hyderabad through coordinated efforts with the transport sector.
