Two individuals were arrested and nearly 5 kg of ganja and a small quantity of MDMA were seized after a dramatic chase and scuffle with the State Task Force (STF)- B team of the Telangana Excise and Prohibition department in Pedda Amberpet ORR Exit no 11 on Friday.

A woman involved in the drug trafficking operation managed to escape and remains on the run.

According to officials, the trio, identified as Goberu Venkata Chaitanya alias Fake Rezwan, his wife Nadimiti Mamata, and their associate Padamati Ravinder, were intercepted based on specific information that the couple were transporting ganja from Rajahmundry to Hyderabad.

The STF team stopped their car and moved in to seize the contraband when the suspects allegedly attacked the officers with knives and a stick in an attempt to flee. Two officers suffered minor injuries during the attack.

The personnel chased the fleeing suspects and arrested Chaitanya and Ravinder. Mamata managed to escape and efforts are under way to trace her.

The team seized 4.495 kg of ganja, 0.65 mg of MDMA, the car used for transport and three mobile phones. Officials said the couple frequently brought ganja from Rajahmundry and other drugs from Bengaluru with the help of friends, supplying them to buyers across Hyderabad before returning to Rajahmundry.

The arrested pair are already implicated in multiple drug trafficking cases in the city, and had previously been caught by STF personnel while transporting ganja.
