Why and how to get rid of bird bombs from your car paint

Why and how to get rid of bird bombs from your car paint BHPian traderjagadeesh recently shared this with other enthusiasts: Went to Shiridi last weekend. So had to park the car in the Hyd airport for few days. Outdoor parking under the trees. So the car was full of dust and a couple of bird bombs. As it was parked under the sun, the bird bombs got dried off and needed immediate attention. I obviously didn’t have time to wash the whole car till the next weekend, so need to do the spot cleaning. Firstly, why the bird droppings should be cleared as early as you can? They are acidic in nature, and has a lot of abrasives in it. Once it dries on the surface and you try to wet it with plain water and wipe off with a microfiber, it can cause serious scratching. So it’s always sensible to get rid of it as early as you can. Or else you might end up in a scenario where even polishing might not be able to remove that. If you have more than 3 spots to deal with, it’s better to go for a full wash where you treat with an alkaline, let it dwell for few minutes, and then rinse off followed by a contact wash like I have explained in this following thread. https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/diy-d…less-wash.html You can also refer to the following video to understand the exact process to deal with in that case. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iuawe2DvKT4&t=1s Now coming back to the current scenario where I have a couple of spots to deal with and don’t have time for a full car wash, here is what I need to do. First understand few things before moving into the procedure. As the bird dropping is acidic in nature, treating with an alkaline will get rid of that. But the problem with that is, alkaline must be neutralized with a rinse. As we are spot treating here, I prefer to stay with pH neutral as much as I can. That’s where the rinseless and waterless solutions come handy. Foaming shampoo again need to be rinsed off. So I don’t prefer that either.. I normally use 10L of water in the wash bucket mixed with rinseless everytime I wash the car. Out of that 10L, 3L goes to prespray and before the contact wash. And I keep 2L aside after that to deal with spot treatments like these if needed. 5L in the wash bucket will be more than enough to do the contact wash for the car and the wheels. If I don’t use this 2L till the next wash, I use that as a pretreat for the top 1/3 of the car before rinsing instead of alkaline pretreat. The top 1/3 isn’t usually that dirty, so it doesn’t need a higher pH pretreat, rinseless will do the job. Now coming back to the procedure, This is how the dried out spot looks like. 1) Keep the sprayer in the mist mode, spray it on the spot and let it dwell for 3-5 minutes. Don’t afraid to use more here as you don’t need to worry about waterspot as you are using rinseless or waterless here, and you are staying in pH neutral range. So be liberal in misting the spot. 2) Now keep the sprayer in the jet mode and rinse it off the panel as much as you can. If you get rid of everything here, you are done with it. 3) If there still are some traces left, take a clean microfiber, dampen it with the rinseless for some lubrication, place it on the spot and let it sit for few seconds, and wipe it off with a rolling palm motion. Make sure you are not putting any pressure on teh microfiber here. This will get it all out 99% of the time. 4) If still there are some traces left, spray some apc diluted very lightly on it, let it sit for a minute or two, then wipe off with a rinseless damped cloth. I personally never faced this kind of situation as I always treat the bird dropping within 3-4 days. I always keep the rinseless or waterless in a spray bottle in my car so that I can deal with these on the go if needed. I had faced a lot of trouble with bird bombs on my previous car long back. So learned it the hard way. This is how the spot looks like post the cleaning.
