A combined total of 925 motorists were booked for drunk driving by the Cyberabad and Hyderabad Traffic Police during special enforcement drives carried out over the weekend of November 14 and November 15, 2025, as authorities ramped up efforts to curb road accidents linked to intoxicated driving.
The Hyderabad Traffic Police booked 457 offenders during their two-day special drive. Of these, 377 were two-wheeler riders, 27 were three-wheeler drivers and 53 were operating four-wheelers and other vehicles. Blood Alcohol Concentration readings showed 83 cases in the 30 to 50 mg range, 194 in the 51 to 100 mg range, 104 in the 101 to 150 mg range, 44 in the 151 to 200 mg range, and 14 each in the 201 to 250 mg and 251 to 300 mg categories. Four motorists registered readings above 300 mg.
Meanwhile, the Cyberabad Traffic Police, in a parallel weekend operation, apprehended 468 drunk driving offenders. Two-wheelers accounted for 335 cases, followed by 25 three-wheelers, 107 four-wheelers and one heavy vehicle. BAC readings indicated that 419 of these offenders had levels between 35 mg and 200 mg, 37 were between 201 mg and 300 mg, and 12 motorists recorded BAC readings between 301 mg and 550 mg.
Station-wise data from Cyberabad revealed widespread violations across multiple zones, with Kukatpally booking the highest number of cases at 51, followed by Rajendra Nagar (42), Shamshabad (39), Gachibowli (33) and Balanagar (29). Age-wise, offenders in the 21 to 30 category formed the largest group with 182 cases, followed by 165 in the 31 to 40 bracket.
Police have announced that all offenders from both jurisdictions will be produced before court. Cyberabad Police warned that anyone causing a fatal accident while driving in an inebriated condition will be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, dealing with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine.
Authorities also reported that between November 10 and November 15, a total of 681 drunken driving cases were disposed of in court in Cyberabad. Of these, 613 offenders were fined, 50 were given both fines and mandatory social service, and 18 received fines along with jail terms.
Both Hyderabad and Cyberabad Traffic Police stated that there will be zero tolerance for drunk driving and confirmed that special enforcement drives will continue. Commuters have been urged to cooperate in the interest of public safety.
