Only last month, Hyundai had confirmed that the Indian market will get a new off-road SUV by FY 2030, which will be part of seven new nameplates for the market. Now the carmaker has introduced an ‘Extreme Off-Road Show Vehicle’, which will be showcased at the soon-to-be launched Los Angeles Auto Show 2025. Hyundai has revealed the first glimpse of this concept car named Crater Concept through a design sketch, which shows a boxy and muscular SUV that looks like the Ford Bronco and Land Rover Defender.

Talking about the design, the Crater will get off-road tires along with significantly higher ground clearance. Its front has thin lights just below the bonnet and a unique four-point pattern in the middle. The grille is closed, suggesting that the concept may be electric, while the main headlamps are placed in a narrow niche just above the thick front bumper.

The sculpted bonnet with contrast-finished paneling near the A-pillar further enhances its rough and ready look, possibly hinting at where the owner can climb up to access the luggage rack. There are four auxiliary lights installed just ahead of the luggage rack.

Looking at the rear, the concept features a prominent haunch with the same tail lamp setup as the front. The rear bumper is also quite large with a large skid plate element, and there is a small roof-mounted integrated spoiler above the rear windshield.

However, it remains to be seen whether the Crater concept could foreshadow a future production model, as Hyundai has called the concept ‘a design exploration that reflects the spirit of adventure.’ Hyundai confirmed last month that the Indian market will be getting a new SUV with off-road capabilities in the coming years, although whether it will be inspired by the Crater or not remains to be seen.
