Hyderabad: The Telangana has emerged as the top-performing state in the Jal Sanchay – Jan Bhagidari (Water Conservation – Public Participation) category at the 6th National Water Awards-2024, announced by the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti. Telangana achieved the number one rank in the country, completing 5,20,362 water conservation works under this national initiative launched by the Central Government in 2024.
President Droupadi Murmu presented the awards on Tuesday to the states, districts and institutions that demonstrated outstanding performance in the Jal Sancharan – Jan Bhagidari programme. In the District Category (Category 1) for the Southern Zone, all top three awards were secured by Telangana districts, winning a total of Rs 6 crore. The winners are: Adilabad, Nalgonda and Mancherial
In the Municipal Corporation category, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) won second rank, receiving a Rs 2 crore award for its water conservation efforts within GHMC limits. In Category 2, the districts of: Warangal, Nirmal and Jangaon secured the top three positions from the Southern Zone and won Rs 1 crore each.
In Category 3, the districts of Bhadradri Kothagudem (1st rank) Mahabubnagar (3rd rank) won Rs 25 lakh each. Additionally, A Satish, Nodal Officer for multiple Telangana districts (Adilabad, Jagtial, Kamareddy, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Medak, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Sangareddy) from the Central Water Commission, received a national award.
